2008 FAZ Elections Procedures
Voting – Continuing on from last week. This time we look at voting procedures. National Sports Council of Zambia are responsible for conducting the election. They will appoint the various election officers. Election Commission of Zambia have been asked to provide:
- Voting Booths
- Transparent ballot boxes
- Indelible ink
Football Association of Zambia will provide the electoral roll – a list showing who is eligible to vote. FAZ will also publish the list of candidates for the various positions and ballot papers.
At the start of the elections, the empty ballot boxes will be displayed and sealed/locked thereafter. Each position will have its own ballot box. As each club and affiliate would have appointed a voting delegate, he or she will be called, and given the ballot papers. He or she will then enter the voting booth and mark the candidate of choice. The completed ballot paper will then be placed in the respective ballot box.
At the end of the voting, each ballot box will be emptied, the ballot papers cast counted. If the ballot papers exceed the number of the voters’ roll, then that will be declared invalid and a re-run ordered. If however, the number equals or is less than the voters’ roll, the poll is declared valid and the election officer will proceed to count the votes for each candidate. At the end of the count, the votes cast are tallied and an announcement made of the result.

As we get closer to the Annual General Meeting election campaigns are being intensified and our appeal is that all those campaigning should conduct themselves to the highest possible standard.
